Veneers treatment – your red carpet-worthy smile is within reach!
Tom Cruise, Miley Cyrus, Morgan Freeman, Emma Watson, and countless other celebrities have perfected their smiles with veneers. This cosmetic dentistry treatment is often the secret to their flawless-looking teeth. And Dental Arts of Orland has the skills and experience to design veneers that look natural and perfect under any light and in any setting.
How can veneers make my smile look better?
From our office in Orland Park, Illinois, veneers (or laminates) are expertly designed to cover up cosmetic imperfections associated with the teeth. Since your teeth play a “starring role” in the appearance of your smile, by disguising chips, gaps, minor spacing issues, stubborn discoloration, and other flaws, we restore a smile that “wows.” The idea behind many cosmetic treatments is to achieve the balance, evenness, uniformity, and symmetry associated with the most attractive smiles and faces.
How do veneers cover up the things I don’t like about my smile?
Veneers are designed from dental materials like porcelain or composite resin. Think of each veneer as a thin shell. These shells are placed on top of the natural tooth. Once the veneer or laminate is in place and everything looks and feels fine, Dr. Scott Lang “bonds” or secures this ultra-thin covering to the tooth. When you look in the mirror, all you now see is a flawless-looking smile. The chips, small cracks, and other concerns are no longer visible when you smile or open your mouth – they are hidden underneath the veneer!

Can I still benefit from veneers if my teeth are damaged?
If you are concerned about changes with your teeth, we need to examine them and get to the bottom of potential damage. Dr. Lang only recommends veneers and other cosmetic dentistry procedures for patients with healthy teeth and gums. The notable exception to this “rule” is our patients who may have weakened enamel or root exposure at the gumline. Applying veneers strengthens the tooth and prevents further damage that could ultimately lead to losing the affected teeth without treatment.
Do veneers hurt?
No. The veneers placed by today’s dentists are extremely thin. Dr. Lang only removes about one-half of a millimeter of the tooth to accommodate the thickness of each veneer. By minimizing the amount of tooth structure removed, most patients tolerate the treatment process very well. Dr. Lang also applies a localized anesthetic to ensure your utmost comfort during the process. So, you will not feel any sensitivity or discomfort as the enamel is removed. We also protect each tooth with a temporary veneer. These temporaries are worn while we wait for our lab to make your permanent veneers.
How long can veneers last?
We use quality materials and bonding techniques to promote the longest-lasting veneers. However, there are things you can do to ensure your veneers hold up “as designed” by Dr. Lang. Continue to consistently brush and floss with non-abrasive toothpastes and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Maintain checkups as you always have, as professional cleanings remove what you can’t remove at home with a standard toothbrush (stubborn plaque build-up). Be kind to your veneers and the natural teeth underneath them! Don’t chew on any hard objects, including your fingernails. We can fit you with a custom nightguard if you grind your teeth. Lastly, never use your teeth as tools to open packages.
